Stir Fried Placenta

It may be a little too soon to think about it now but the other day at a friend’s baby shower, the conversation in our corner revolved around what to do with the placenta (after the baby is born). Apparently, one lady is planning to eat the placenta raw while another is planning to stir fry it (presumably with spring onions and ginger).

I did a quick search online and found that there’s an actual word for eating the placenta! It’s called Placentophagy. Someone even did a whole lot of research on a topic that she’d accidentally stumbled upon.

Would you eat your placenta?

As for me, I have a contact for someone who can convert the placenta into pills and I think I just might call on that contact in a couple of months.

  1. This is interesting. We are at w16 now and I’ve also been thinking about the placenta.

Read a local article quite awhile ago on how some mothers handle theirs. The one which left an impression – frozen placenta kept in home freezer. Mother will cut a tiny piece out each time and add it to tonics/herbal soup. She fed that to the child as well.

Hope you can update about the post-treatment of the placenta in time to come. Making it into pills sounds very palatable, compared to raw eating/stir-fry dish :P

    • Hi CL, Congrats on your pregnancy =) Will update again on this for sure. Don’t think I can handle keeping a frozen placenta myself.

      =) G
